Sizing up Baby's 1st Christmas

The holiday shopping season is in full swing, and this Grammy got an early start. I hit the stores even before Black Friday hit us. (And I skipped the crowds that day!)

Like any enthusiastic grandparent with an adorable grandbaby, I was immediately drawn to a display of “My 1st Christmas” pajamas and other festive outfits. I began clicking through the tiny plastic hangers, looking for just the right size.

 What a disappointment.

To my dismay, all they had were the 24-month size – in their entire collection of “My 1st Christmas” apparel.

That struck me as funny. Just how big are those babies?

Hung up on hand-me-ups

Ssh! Don’t tell. I’m pilfering my kid’s closet again.

Yeah, I know real grownups aren’t supposed to go out in public in those strappy stretch camisoles, racerback singlets, or  little ribby tank tops. But the colors are fabulously fun. And those little undershirts fit nicely under bigger over-shirts.

Maybe those tiny teen shirts can be almost tasteful, if they are worn beneath other garments. (You didn’t really think I’d wear them without layering, did you? OK, maybe only for running.)

So, if my kids can raid my sock drawer, I can snatch up a tank top now or then. It’s only fair.

Just don’t spill the beans. And I’ll try not to spill out of – oh, never mind.

28 Day of Thanks – Pajamas

True confession: There is at least one thing I really love about winter. Nope, it’s not the blustery storms, the blowing snow, or the blistering wind chills.

It’s climbing into cozy flannel pajamas, once I know I am home for the night, and staying in them as long as possible in the morning. Sure, most mornings call for early dressing to dart out the door. But weekend mornings… ah. Fuzzy flannel fabulousness.

Flannel PJs are baggy and bulky and frumpy and awesome. In fact, I've been known to pick up jam pants in the men's department, mostly because they come with pockets. (Did you know pajamas are sexist? That's right. Ladies' PJs don't usually have pockets. So where are we supposed to stash our cell phones?)

Color me thankful - probably in plaid.

28 Days of Thanks – Safety pins

Safety pins seem to pile up on their own around here – in my car console, in my desk drawer, and even in the key basket by the back door. They multiply almost daily, as if on their own.

OK, I know I pick up four new safety pins with each running race bib or horse show entry number. But still …

And yet, on days like this, I am grateful to have these little quick-fixes handy. Trust me. You don’t wanna know.

Color me thankful – and now rescued from a mild wardrobe malfunction, thanks to a few safety pins.
