28 Day of Thanks – Medical tests

Medical testing can be stressful and unpleasant. Some such activities may invade our privacy in some embarrassing ways. Some procedures are even painful.

But I am grateful for recent medical testing.

My overall appreciation quotient is boosted by every good report I receive from medical test results. An MRI that shows no marked change over several years is cause for celebration. A mammogram that proves to be normal is reason for gratitude. And dental xrays showing no cavities are worth a fair amount of jubilation.

Now I am waiting for a biopsy report. It’s a follow-up, as a strange spot was discovered during an exam. This could mean a carcinoma has returned in a new spot. Or it might mean nothing of the sort.

Still, I am relieved to have the opportunity to find out for sure – especially at an early stage. And I am waiting for a good report. Color me thankful, and even more so in a couple of weeks, when the lab results are available.

28 Day of Thanks – Tea

C’mon now. I cannot stand coffee. And, right about this time of year, folks crow more than ever about flavored coffees, coffee socials, holiday coffees, and all the rest.

I gotta say it. To me, coffee tastes like what I imagine steeped burned tobacco might be, if one were to drink it. Ugh.

But I am all for a little caffeine blast, especially after a less-than-perfect night’s sleep and before a particularly busy day. So I sip tea.

I’m not really into all the exotic herbal teas. (OK, I like a few of those, but not many and not the weird ones. You know the ones I mean.) Besides, those don’t carry any caffeine. That sort of defeats the purpose, doesn’t it?

And my tea need not come in a fancy china cup with a saucer. A sturdy mug will do nicely.

But a good old-fashioned English Breakfast Tea can rock my morning. Except I don’t go for milk or cream in my tea. Perish the thought. Just pass a wedge of lemon and a spoonful of sugar, would you, please?

One might say it is simply my cup of …. Well, you know.

Precisely so. Cheerio, and color me thankful.

28 Day of Thanks – Cat

We have a cat who seriously thinks she is a dog. She comes when she is called. She is sociable and affectionate. She eats all her food in one fell swoop.

She even almost barks. OK, maybe it’s more like a chirpy sound. We’ve heard that’s a Maine Coon thing.

Anyway, facing off with the family dog, the cat wins – hands down, every time. She’s a boss. And she’s a keeper.

She's fierce and friendly and furiously funny, although we are pretty sure she doesn't mean to be so.

Color me thankful for the ever-alert watch-kitty. Sure, the dog can sound an alert. But ain’t nobody gonna tangle with ninja kitty.
