S is for “Seriously Funny” - Oxymorons from A to Z

Deadpan humor is one thing, but this is wondrously weird.

When we say something is seriously funny, that’s not what we mean at all. We’re talking levity, not gravity. It’s nothing serious. It’s simply stupendously funny.

Maybe a comedian is off-the-charts hilarious. Perhaps a movie puts us in tears and convulsions of laughter.

It’s unexpected. It’s shockingly silly. It’s superlatively clever. And it’s seriously funny.

What?

What’s an oxymoron?

Basically, an oxymoron is a phrase that seems contradictory or incongruous. Taken literally, the words do not make sense. Often, oxymorons find their way into popular usage, becoming cultural catchwords or frequently used idioms.

Many of these curious wordings strike us as delightfully amiss. Besides, what sort of whimsical word is “oxymoron”?
