Valentine’s Day: Freaky 14 Countdown #7 – Angel and Devil

Hello? Halo? OK, we get it.

This vintage Valentine illustrates the classic stereotype of male/female relationships, in which the guy is seen as devilish, and the girl is simply angelic.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And blah-blah-blah.

Maybe you beg to differ. Who wants to play The Devil's Advocate over this one?

It’s cliché to a tee, rubs our feathers the wrong way, and doesn’t fit the bill at all.

We’ve all seen the hackneyed image of the undecided individual, sorting out whisperings from an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other. Perhaps this Valentine evokes the same level of irritation.

Sure, this little Valentine may be meant as childish fun.

Remember what Father Brown Stories author G.K. Chesterton said about angels? “The reason angels can fly is because they take themselves lightly.”

I love that. But I still don’t like this Valentine.

  1. My spouse and I absolutely love your blog and find almost all
of your post's to be exactly what I'm looking for.

Would you offer guest writers to write content in your case?
I wouldn't mind creating a post or elaborating on a few of the subjects you write about here. Again, awesome website!
